Press Photographs of the year

Press photographs of the year is an annual exhibition held by The Icelandic Press Photography Association. In the exhibition this year we have 96 photos, by Icelandic press photographers, selected from 836 entries by an independent jury.

The photographs are divided into 7 categories, which are news photos, daily life photos, sports photos, portraits, environmental images, editorial and series.
In each category the jury chose the best photo / best series and one image from these categories was selected as the picture of the year.

Judging took place on 14th and 15th of March and this year the judges were Arnaldur Halldórsson, Bragi Þór Jósefsson, Brynjar Gunnarsson, Kristinn Ingvarsson, Rut Sigurðardóttir, Sigríður Kristín Birnudóttir and Catalina Martin-Chico, who was the chairman of the jury.

The Icelandic Press Photography Association was established in 1976 and operates within The Icelandic Press Association. Photos of the Year exhibition has been held since 1980 and is one of the most visited photo exhibition in Iceland each year. The Icelandic Press Photography board this year are Kristinn Magnússon (chairman), Eyþór Árnason, Hákon Davíð Björnsson, Heiða Helgadóttir, Heiðdís Guðbjörg Gunnarsdóttir and Styrmir Kári Erwinsson.
