Outlook is a series of photographs shot in the fall of 2015 in Iceland, where my family and I were temporarily staying. Outside the bedroom window was a lush backyard that I became inspired to photograph. There was a magnetic board next to the window with a small watercolour picture on display, and I got the idea to place photographs there, both press photos as well as family photos. What interested me was the interaction between what was happening in the outside world, in nature, and in our personal lives.

Over these four months the board gradually filled, while winter took over the backyard. In that time period I shot 80 photographs, some of which are featured in the display. I did a similar project in 2008-2009 which I presented in a handmade artist book that was exhibited in the Reykjavík Museum of Photography, the National Museum of Iceland, and recently at Susan Eley Fine Art in New York.

Charlotta María Hauksdóttir is an Icelandic Fine Arts Photographer based in Palo Alto, CA.
