Are you normal? Photo exhibition

Are You Normal? is an exhibition that will be opened in the Pier Hall of the Reykjavík Maritime Museum on 24 April to celebrate the Children's Culture Festival. Are you normal? is a project where teenagers reflect on what it is to be normal. The project is about stereotypes and how constricting they can be. The teenagers learn to recognize stereotypes and the importance of challenging them. Aren't fat people sexy? Are gays always feminine? Should we feel sorry for people with disabilities? Can older people make out? Are mental illnesses terrible? The exhibition celebrates diversity and inclusivity. It is open from 10 to 17 every day until 7 May. Entry is free, and everyone is welcome!

What is your dream school like? - Workshop for 1-7 grade children

"What is your dream school like? Do you have any ideas about what elementary schools might be like in the future? What is your best way to learn and play? What kind of furniture would you choose if it was up to you?" Participation is free of charge, and all children in 1-7 classes in elementary school are welcome. The workshop takes place in the museum house called Lækjargata. My Dream School is a unique paper-cutting workshop run by ÞYKJÓ and the museum's education team. This engaging workshop is a key part of the opening programme for the exhibition Growing Pains, which debuts on the first day of summer, coinciding with the Children's Culture Festival and DesignMarch. Growing Pains, an interactive exhibition crafted by ÞYKJÓ design team for Árbær Open Air Museum, offers visitors a hands-on experience. It provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of primary school children in Reykjavík, featuring precious artefacts, photographs, and captivating stories from the past. ÞYKJÓ is a multidisciplinary team of designers who work for children and their families in experience design, installations, and product design. Their design aims to stimulate children's imagination and creativity in collaboration with educational and cultural institutions. The Workshop received a grant from the Children’s Culture Festival.
