Slow Living Weekends at Árbær Open Air Museum!
Árbær Open Air Museum welcomes visitors daily between 10:00 and 17:00. Our diligent summer workers have arrived and carefully prepared the museum buildings and grounds.
This summer, our weekend programme takes on an exciting new format. Introducing Slow Living Weekends - a delightful experience that celebrates the art of handicrafts within our charming houses. Join us and feel good at a museum! Árbær Open Air Museum is one of the city's finest destinations to enjoy peaceful moments with your family.
While our core events, such as the annual National Festival, Midsummer Walk, the Accordion Festival, Chess tournament in collaboration with the Árbær Open Air Museum and Reykjavik Chess Association, and the Come and Play! event during the August bank holiday remains a permanent fixture, and we are happy to introduce additional experiences this season.
During Slow Living Weekends, you will have the unique opportunity to learn about various crafts. Our staff, dressed in traditional attire inspired by bygone eras, will engage in various household and rural tasks. Witness the art of gardening, washing, spinning wool and knitting, churning butter, frying flatkökur and lummur, roasting coffee beans, and even the fine crafts of forging and printing.
Younger visitors will find joy in exploring our collection of box cars and other outdoor toys, ensuring endless entertainment for them. In our pasture, you'll encounter sheep, goats, and horses grazing peacefully. Keep an eye out for our resident hens as they roam freely around the museum grounds near our beloved Dillons Café, which remains open daily from 11 to 17.
