Advent is upon us, and that's the ideal time to visit Árbær Open Air Museum to get in the holiday mood by experiencing the Christmas spirit of the past. The Christmas tree is upon the square, and exhibitions in the museum houses Lækjargata and Suðurgata give insight into Christmas celebrations in Reykjavík in the olden days. Unfortunately, there will be no organised Christmas programmes at the open-air museum this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. The museum houses are open every day between 13:00 and 17:00; but, the museum grounds are always available to visitors outside opening hours.

The Settlement Exhibition in Aðalstræti and the Reykjavík Maritime Museum in Grandi are open every day between 10:00 and 17:00. The Reykjavík Museum of Photography is open between 12:00 and 17:00 during weekdays and 13:00 – 16:00 on Saturdays. At the Reykjavík Museum of Photography, you can see the Distance and Intimacy exhibition. Contemporary Icelandic Photography.

For further information about the exhibitions at Reykjavík Museum of Photography can be found here.

The Reykjavík City Museum shops in Árbær Open Air Museum, The Settlement Exhibition, The Reykjavík Museum of Photography and the Reykjavík Maritime Museum are open at the same time as the museums themselves. There it is possible to find many beautiful and unique Christmas presents.
